Ephermera
My senior thesis was inspired by a poem by the artist Florine Stettheimer
I broke the glistening spider web
That held a lovely ephemere
I freed its delicate legs and wings
Of all the sticky untidy strings
It stayed with me a whole summer’s day
Then it simply flew away-“
I wanted to capture the lightness and warmth that this poem evokes. Playing with transparency and texture through hand tied yarn to create these diamond patterns. I worked primarily with mohair to emulate the softness and wispy nature of the web.
